I. The role and function of shelves
Shelves - storage equipment specially used to store finished items in warehouses

  •  Shelves made of steel or reinforced concrete can be used to increase the storage capacity of the warehouse by increasing the height of the shelves.
  • The goods on the shelves do not touch or squeeze each other, reducing damage to the goods.
  •  Goods are easy to store and retrieve, and first-in-first-out can be easily achieved with computer management.
  • Moisture-proof, dust-proof, and anti-theft measures can be adopted to improve the quality of goods storage.
  • It is conducive to the realization of automated management of storage systems.

II. Classification of shelves
1. According to the structure of the shelves

  • Integral shelves - the shelves are the skeleton of the warehouse, and the roof is supported on the shelves.
  • Split shelves - the shelves are independently built in the warehouse, and the shelves are separated from the warehouse.

2. According to the load capacity of the shelf

  • Light shelves - each layer bears less than 150kg, such as supermarket shelves;
  • Medium shelves - each layer bears 150∽500kg, such as medium-sized industrial shelves
  • Heavy shelves - each layer bears more than 500kg, such as heavy-duty industrial shelves.

3. According to the height of the shelf

  • Low-level shelves - the height is less than 5m, used for ordinary warehouses;
  • Middle-level shelves - the height is 5~15m, can be used for stereoscopic warehouses;
  • High-level shelves - the height is more than 15m, generally used for stereoscopic warehouses.

4. According to the form of the shelf

  • Channel shelves - there are storage and retrieval channels between the shelves, such as container type, pallet type, cantilever type, through-type, etc.
  • Dense shelves - there are few channels between the shelves to increase the storage capacity, such as mobile type, gravity type, etc.
  • Rotary shelves - the shelves can rotate along a certain track to facilitate picking, divided into horizontal rotary type and vertical rotary type.

III. The structure, characteristics and application of various shelves
1. Structure and types Structure: It is composed of main columns, beams, shelves, etc.
Types:
(1) According to the weight of the goods carried

  • Medium and heavy shelves - the maximum size is 4.5 × 3 × 1.2m
  • Light shelves - for manual loading and unloading, height less than 2.4m, thickness less than 0.5m

(2) According to the structure

  • Prefabricated - for steel light shelves
  • Fixed - for medium and heavy shelves with strong bearing capacity
  • Semi-fixed

(3) According to the degree of closure: open, semi-open, metal mesh, front baffle

2. Features and uses Features:
Simple structure, material saving, strong adaptability, easy to operate and receive and send, but the number of goods stored is limited, and it is the main equipment of manual warehouses.
Application:

  • Light shelves - used for the storage of small items for small batches and sporadic receipt and delivery;
  • Medium and heavy shelves - used with forklifts and other tools to store large items, heavy materials, etc.
